An Open Letter to My Non-Christian Friends

Some friendships have changed since I converted to Christianity. There are some things I desperately wish my friends who aren’t Christians knew. Here is a letter to all my non-Christian friends, and perhaps some of yours too.

I love you like crazy

Real, genuine love. The kind of love that puts another before oneself. I know I don’t always make that apparent, but it’s true. I don’t think I’m better than you, nor do I want to be better than you. Love isn’t something that’s optional in my life. Jesus showed it to all, so when I walk in his footsteps I must do likewise. This doesn’t mean that I will always agree with you or approve of what you do; but I am always rooting for you. I want you to win in life, to be happy, and to experience the divine love, grace, and mercy of God. I will always seek your best and do whatever I can to help you.

Part of the reason I love you so much is because I know how much God loves you. He loves you even more than I do. Though you’ve made mistakes and have sinned like we all have (Romans 3:23), he sent his only son to be an atoning sacrifice for your sins–not because you deserve it, but because he loves us that much (Romans 5:6-8). God loves you, and so do I.

I pray for you constantly

You might think it’s meaningless or silly, but you are always in my prayers. I believe that God is listening and is powerful in ways we can’t even comprehend. Like Paul with the Israelites, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for you is that you might be saved (Romans 10:1). I pray for your safety, health, and soul. Every morning, every night, and hundreds of times in between. Not because I’m so powerful and great; but because God is so powerful and great.

My heart is full of hope

Hope for your future, our future, and your soul. I hope you succeed in your walks in life, I hope we can maintain a friendship, and I hope you will respond to Jesus. I’m always here to help, talk to, and cry with. I believe that Jesus Christ is the “Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the  world” (John 1:29). My hope is that you’ll read the words of Jesus. My hope is that you’ll see that Jesus is the route to eternal life, the source of divine reconciliation, and the gateway to heaven (John 14:6; Acts 4:12; 2 Corinthians 5:18-21).

My hope is that you’ll let me look at the Bible with you sometime and discuss whatever questions you might have. My hope is that you’ll realize that Jesus is willing to forgive any and every sin. My hope is that you’ll realize that I value you as a friend and as a precious soul.

We might not see each other for while or talk a lot. But I love you, pray for you, and am hopeful for your future. I really want to be in your life, and Jesus wants to be in your life even more. I hope you’ll never forget that.
